Shoji Screens & Doors

Featured Listings

Shoji, literally translated as "Interceptor", is a sliding panel used as a window or door in the traditional Japanese house. The word was first used to describe portable screens which formed the earliest room partition and room enclosure.

The Shoji is an internal panel, mostly used as a window or door to a corridor to let soft, diffused light from outside filter in. Because a soft light is transmitted through the screen you can create a private area while retaining an airy, spacious environment.

Our Shoji Screens and Doors are made of a timber hardwood frame in  Australian Tasmanian Oak. This beautiful timber has been selected because it has the correct grain and density to reproduce the quality of the original Shoji screens. We also use New Guinea Rosewood which has a beautiful rich golden honey colour. Shoji screens and panels have many applications - they are perfect for use as room dividers or sliding wall partitions, in fact in any area of your home or office.  Perfect for new builds or renovation projects as a beautiful feature you will want to show off to your friends & colleagues.

We specialise in large openings meeting perpendicular to "create a room" with a combination of fixed/sliding Shoji Screens eg to convert a Studio Apartment into a 1 Bed apartment using the same footprint thereby adding value to the property. Also great for guest/living areas, study/guest rooms for extra privacy.

Shoji Screens and Doors produce sliding doors and fixed panels as well as bi-fold screens, cavity sliding doors or hinged doors, which combine the visual appeal of traditional materials with the practicality demanded by the Australian lifestyle. By using our specially produced Japan Rice polycarbonate or frosted matt acrylic insert panels, a soft diffused light is achieved yet is far more practical and durable than paper.  Shoji Screens and Doors are made in Queensland, Australia and are custom made for you and finished in black lacquer, white lacquer or clear lacquer. A range of stain colours is also available.

The screens can run in a cavity or on the outside of a room.  Traditionally Japanese Shoji Screens are bottom rolling however we make all types of internal door and track systems for top or bottom rolling applications.  Transform your space. Great product, great service.  Simply elegant.  Contact us through our website or call for a chat about which options will suit your space.
