City of Gold Coast Creates Arts For All Queenslanders

Munumjali Mountain Creation Story PerformanceArts and culture on the Gold Coast has received a major boost from the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF).

Mayor Tom Tate said RADF provided opportunities for local artists and practitioners to take their creativity to the next level in a demonstration of the city’s cultural vision in action.

“We are seeing the emergence of a new era in arts and culture and the projects supported through RADF funding will add significantly to our city’s creative vibrancy,” Cr Tate said.

“Through initiatives and partnerships such as this we are supporting our local artists and cultural practitioners to be ambitious and bold in their creative endeavours.”

Arts Minister Ian Walker said the Regional Arts Development Fund supported more than 3000 arts and cultural projects each year.

“In 2013–14, the Queensland Government will provide $2.037 million, with another $1.49 million coming from 55 Queensland councils,” Mr Walker said.

“This means $3.5 million for arts and cultural projects across the state, enabling communities to choose projects to meet their own needs and opportunities.

“Partnerships like this are a primary focus in the way the Newman Government invests in the arts,” Mr Walker said.

“The Regional Arts Development Fund also delivers on the State Government’s Arts for all Queenslanders strategy.”
