Gold Coast Online Learning Start-up Company Tapping into Asian Market

A local start-up company from Varsity Lakes has secured several Asian distribution deals to deliver online English language skills to more than 65,000 students across the globe.

Literacy Planet has managed to secure investment dollars in excess of $5 million through Ellerston Capital and MAP Capital Advisors and is being hailed a real Queensland success story.

Designed for use by both parents and teachers, Literacy Planet is an online education application teaching English Literacy to school children, including about 20,000 Queensland students.

The Minister for Science, Information Technology, Innovation and the Arts, Ian Walker recently announced the company had struck a deal with FrogAsia, an online learning platform used by all Malaysian government schools.

“Through a partnership with MAP Capital Advisors, the company is also distributing its package into government schools in the Philippines,” he said.

Literacy Planet founder Shane Davis said the company expected to expand further in the future, with plans of entering into a partnership with Nickelodeon UK and Australia.

The company also has its sights set on exploring the Chinese market in the near future.
