CONSTRUCTION has started on Essence Property Group’s $20 million Harbourside Market.
Set to culturally invigorate Biggera Waters, the northern Gold Coast’s own gourmet food and dining marketplace is set to open late next year and is conveniently located opposite the popular Harbourtown Shopping Centre.
Gold Coast City Councillor Grant Pforr, who attended the official construction ceremony for the turning of the sod, said Harbourside Market will breathe new life into the Biggera Waters Hub.
“It is a great pleasure to welcome Harbourside Market to the mix of high standard new development projects on the Gold Coast, bringing a breath of fresh air to the this city that we love,” said Cr Pforr.
“With the start of construction at Harbourside Market comes hope for the revitalisation of Biggera Waters, setting the precedent for future gourmet market developments.
“Once completed, Harbourside Market is sure to answer demand for a booming northern Gold Coast market and is testimony to the importance of leading change by having a vision for a region.”
Harbourside Market consists of 1400sqm of leasable space and comprises 13 tenancies with a diverse range of floor plan configurations and uses.
The gourmet food hub and upmarket lifestyle precinct is aiming to become a food lover’s haven, a place where culture and passion for fine food mix to create the ultimate foodie experience.
Essence Food Group, a division of Essence Property Group, will bring an authentic bakehouse, juice bar, traditional gelato bar, fresh fruit and vegetable market, a selection of organic produce, fresh seafood and a European deli alongside licensed, semi-formal and casual dining options.
Designed to meet demand at the northern end of the Gold Coast, Harbourside Market is primed to emerge as a destination in its own right – offering a sophisticated fresh and organic food market and a range of fine dining choices.
Essence Property Group Co-Director Chris Giufre said the aim was to create a trendy, sophisticated modern-day version of the traditional European marketplace experience.
“We are so excited to see our vision come to life before our eyes. Now that construction has started we are thrilled to be on our way to creating something truly unique for the Gold Coast,” he said.
“Harbourside Market aims to provide the ultimate food lover’s experience, with a focus on the highest quality produce and service and a trendy, sophisticated modern-day atmosphere of a thriving food hub with a European marketplace influence.”
By day the new $20 million gourmet food hub and upmarket lifestyle precinct will offer Gold Coast fine food enthusiast’s a unique fusion of fine Australian foods, mixed with a unique European influence as well as international product lines.
By night the market will transform into a vibrant dining precinct tempting visitors with fine dining restaurants and coffee houses. Harbourside Markets are expected to inject a fresh zest into the area, as the precinct becomes ‘the place to be and the place to be seen’.
The development is the result of extensive research, where Essence Property Group identified a gap in the marketplace for a quality food market and dining precinct on the northern end of the Gold Coast, catering for clientele from Runaway Bay, Paradise Point, Biggera Waters, Labrador, Southport, Surfers Paradise, Main Beach, Sovereign Islands, Hope Island and Sanctuary Cove.

I am so looking forward to this opening. I arrived on the Gold Coast 12 years ago from Perth, WA. I was expecting an abundance of fresh, good quality tropical fruits. What a disappointment it was. 12 years on and the challenge to find good quality fresh produce is still the same…..all we need now is some great restaurants up this end of the GC.
Maybe the Gold Coast is finally ‘growing up’!
