Experts to Debate Gold Coast City Plan

Gold Coast planningPlanners, engineers, lawyers and developers will meet today to discuss the Gold Coast’s new city plan.

The draft document that will guide the city’s development for the next decade is expected to be circulated for public consultation within weeks.

The Gold Coast president of the Urban Development Institute of Australia, David Ransom, says its implications will be explored at today’s briefing.

“The industry’s looking for clear, unambiguous signals about where they can and cannot develop,” he said.

“It’s saying a lot of common sense things but the trick is to actually make sure that the detailed parts of the planning scheme are actually in line with that, saying the same things.

“There’s a lot of Singaporean and Chinese people looking for opportunities around the city at the moment.

“There are three things that any developer generally needs to make their project successful and I think at the moment we are emerging from a period where one or two of those things haven’t been available – particularly finance and market opportunity – but those things are definitely trending upwards at the moment.”
