A Talented Life Celebrated at Gettin’ Jiggy

Preparations for an event encompassing the great loves and creative escapades of the late Jiggy Johnson are underway. Gettin’ Jiggy will be a celebration of the life, art and music of Jiggy Johnson and is slotted to take place at Dust Temple, Currumbin Creek Rd, Currumbin, on Saturday 11th January, 2014.

Gettin' Jiggy pledgeJiggy Johnson was a talented artist, musician, skater and surfer who had a huge influence across these communities at his longtime home on the Gold Coast and in his native New Zealand.

As a surfboard sander and polisher for Darren Handley Designs he worked on the world-title winning boards of Mick Fanning and Stephanie Gilmore.

As a musician he played drums for a string of popular Gold Coast bands and could play any instrument he picked up. He remained an active and inspired artist, skater and surfer right until his sad and untimely death just prior to Christmas due to a sudden heart attack. He was 46 year old.

Jiggy leaves behind a loving wife Heather and two beautiful young boys Kaitoa and Che, and their community of friends have banded together to create a fund-raising event in support of the family.

A special art exhibition will showcase the art and photography of Jiggy, Steve Sherman, Ted Grambeau, Darren Love, Dean Cogle and more.  Live music will be provided by Sun of Man, V Rays, the Living Room, The Core Vets, Snakes and Daggers plus other special guests TBA.

A live auction will feature personal surfboards donated by three-time world champ Mick Fanning and five-time women’s world champ Stephanie Gilmore, and signed World Cup jerseys. Raffles and door prizes have been donated by numerous supporting sponsors including SAND, Stryker Media, DHD, Element, Valley Eyewear, Corona, Quiksilver Foundation, Billabong, Epokhe/Kaie Neville, Old Style Skates, Burleigh Brewing, The Sunlounge Collection, Dragon Optical, Darren Love, Ted Grambeau, Dean Cogle, Dan Howard/Ocean Artwork, Griffith Street Family Dental, Cafe D’bar, Treasured Interiors, Slam Skateboard Magazine, Surfing Life, Soul Arch Media, Phil Dews Security, Jens Midson and many more.
