The City of Gold Coast’s newest library at Upper Coomera has opened its doors for the first time, to a hugely positive reception from local residents.
Around 1000 customers streamed into the library during its first morning, giving it a firm thumbs up.
Deputy Mayor Donna Gates said the community centre would provide much anticipated recreation, learning, sports and leisure opportunities for local residents.
“The Northern Gold Coast is rapidly growing and the new centre will give the community a real focal point, where people can socialise, have fun, learn and share ideas,” said Cr Gates.
“The facilities, including the new library, are truly inspiring and we hope they will make a real difference to residents.”
Part of the new Upper Coomera Community Centre, the state-of-the-art facility offers a full range of library services to residents for the first time.
The new library has an extensive collection of books, magazines, newspapers, DVDs and CDs, as well as computers, areas for teenagers and children, a wide range of online resources and free wifi.
Library members can also reserve items from other Gold Coast libraries, and return items to any library in the network.
In addition to the library, the community centre boasts an aquatic centre, customer service centre and cafe.
Both the library and pool are now open. Advance bookings can also be made for the Centre’s rooms, hall and youth space. Although the café is not currently operational, a temporary café is being provided in the kitchen.
Minor finishing works will continue until early June, when the centre will be officially opened.
A community fun day is also planned, to showcase the Centre’s facilities to local residents.
