Roller Derby is coming to the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre for the first time on Saturday 30 April in a night of fierce competition when the Sunstate Roller Girls will take on the Victorian Roller Derby League.
The American-invented contact sport has been gaining momentum across the world as more and more join the competition, and since making it big on the Drew Barrymore directed film ‘Whip It’. It’s also leaving its mark on Australia where there are now more than 30 roller derby leagues in existence.
This month the Centre’s Arena, which has famously staged big names Rihanna, Billy Connolly, the Gold Coast Blaze and the cream of the surfing community at the ASP World Champions Crowning, will be transformed into a roller skating track to host the unrelenting bout between north and south.
Come see the coolest all‐women’s sport and some of the nation’s finest roller derby athletes as they strap on their helmets and skate it out for number one.
