Short+Sweet Theatre Festival 2013 Soon To Launch

The 2013 Short+Sweet short play festival is shaping up to be an exciting year of performances. With 40 different plays, as many writers & directors and well over 100 actors, you’ll experience the best of Brisbane and Gold Coast talent as you laugh, cry, tremble and weep.

Short+Sweet is an annual festival of short, 10 minute plays celebrated through multiple festivals throughout Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Taipei, Auckland, Delhi, Chennai & Mambai. This year’s performances mark Brisbane’s 5th year of the festivities and the Gold Coast’s 3rd.

It seems everyone wants to be a part of the festival this year. Over 200 local artists are participating, including several high profile actors such as Monette Lee, Casey Woods and Iain Gardiner. There are more independent theatre companies involved than ever before with Markwell Presents, White Rabbit, Pentimento and Jennifer Bismire taking part.

The fresh program has been put together by dynamic new Festival Manager, Nathan Sibthorpe, who has taken in scripts ranging from violent dramas to spectacular dancing, outrageous comedies and even creative shadow puppetry.

From the end of July and through August you’ll be able to enjoy the shows at two locations across Brisbane and the Gold Coast. All audiences are guaranteed 10 plays a night, with no play gong longer than 10 minutes. You’ll even get a chance to be part of the judging process, sending the winners down to Sydney to be part of the 8 week festival.

The Short+Sweet Festival is a Community Arts Project allowing budding playwrights, emerging actors, directors and independent theatre companies to be seen in a professional environment by industry experts. The festival believes in the ten minute theatre form and its ability to stimulate, move and entertain audiences while uncovering & showcasing new talent.
