World class West African musicians, Keyim Ba, will bring the rhythm, dance and music of Africa to The Arts Centre Gold Coast on Thursday 12 September with their show African Caravan. Enjoy powerful African drumming, percussive music and high energy dance.
Diverse and innovative, African Caravan explores melody, song, rhythm and movement across culture and time, taking audiences on an extraordinary musical journey.
Keyim Ba’s music has an intoxicating upbeat sound, bringing the influences of reggae, funk and rap to West African grooves.
Led by the ever charismatic Sibo Bangoura from Guinea, this brilliant eight piece band has enormous energy, giving tradition a modern twist that never fails to fill the dance floor.
The powerhouse also includes Yacou MBaye from Senegal (doun doun, talking drum, sabar and congas), Moussa Diakete from Mali (lead guitar) and Simon Olsen of Electric Empire (bass). They are joined by well-known Sydney musician Blair Greenberg (guitar), Julian Belbachir (percussion) and the captivating vocals of Sydney based singer/song writer, Miriam Lieberman, with Rachel Bangoura on the dance floor to complete the picture.
The evening will also include a performance from support act PINKSTA, a traditional African tea ceremony and a display of African artefacts.
